Gratitude

Today I woke up grateful. I grew up being raised by a mean, angry, broken woman. I grew up with a father who was an absent, selfishly un-involved man. I was stupid, ugly, bitches and hoes most of my life; at least that was what I was constantly told I suffered from depression, anxiety, and low self-confidence I had to find the will to fight like hell to attend and complete college on my own

If it had not been for the Lord...

Who whispered my future in my dreams, Who sent friends who became sisters, Who sent mentors who became surrogate parents, Who sent a man who could love me past my pain, I’m not sure who Michelle Elaine would be today.

So, today I woke up. Grateful. Humbled. Loved.
